Cyberflix Vs The Chinese DVD Lady
The concept of Cyberflix is a simple one and has been shown to work well elsewhere in the world (Blockbuster, Amazon) whereby you pay a monthly fee and can hold up to a certain number of DVDs that you order online, and send back by post) Cyberflix are taking a bold move in a market where this does not yet exist. Why is this bold?
1. The big guys are not here yet
2. The postal system in the UAE works on a PO Box basis
3. The general UAE consumer is not yet Internet savvy
4. Payment systems are problematic
5. The Chinese DVD lady...
While the first four areas are workable, the Chinese DVD lady, who provides dodgey DVDs, usually taken in dingey cinemas in the US or the Far East provides titles, direct to your home, for a cheaper price, and before they are officially released. While this is completely illegal, there is not enough being done to clamp down on such practices. It will be interesting to see if Cyberflix are able to get the consumer to go legit and opt for quality. If they are, they will establish a big market share before other players come in. If not, they will sink and burn in cyberspace. Good luck to them.

I think people actually get a thrill out of knowing they're ripping someone off or getting something for free.
I know oil billionaire's (not billionaires, but close enough), with enough money for fancy cars, fancy mobiles, and even fancy women; yet they won't buy original movies, instead opting for fake ones.
I think another problem they will face is how long it takes to get the product to DVD; it's far too long, no one wants to wait 6 months+ when they can get it instantly off the internet for free. Especially in Dubai; there is this go go go attitude as if everyone is going to die tomorrow; for instance the xbox 360 retailed before its international release in shops in the UAE at above 5000 dhs (should've sold for ~3000 dhs), people want stuff first; if you can conquer that, imho, you will make fucking BUCKETLOADS of money.
We have an online DVD rental service that is similar to what you've mentioned. It only covers the city of dubai
www.dvdcafes.com
Good news for all RapidShare users in the UAE. Sonic Upload has been appointed the Official Reseller for RapidShare Premium Accounts for the UAE (United Arab Emirates). You can visit the website on www.sonicupload.com
I am new in Dubai, and was looking out for any online DVD rental companies. In my search, DVDcafes was referred, but unfortunately their web-site does not work. Is the company still in operation? Are there any other DVD rental companies present in Dubai. I have been a big Netflix user in the past, and I prefer subscribing DVD’s via online over the mom and pop rentals.
