Adultery in Dubai

First there was sex on the beach, then there was case of Marnie Pearce who was imprisoned and then released for her extra marital mischief. If those werent warnings enough, anyone who is stuck in a marriage in a Muslim country governed by Sharia Law and is having a bit on the side must be quaking in their boots just now.

Islam frowns in a big way against adultery (zina) - Islam not only prohibits Zina, but also closes all the avenues and means leading to it. This is achieved by prohibiting every step and means leading to stimulating desires, opening ways for illicit sexual relations between men and women, and promoting indecency and obscenity.

The concept of adultery is mentioned numerous times in the Quran:
- "Do not go near to adultery. Surely it is a shameful deed and evil, opening roads (to other evils)" (Quran 17:32).
- "Say, 'Verily, my Lord has prohibited the shameful deeds, be it open or secret, sins and trespasses against the truth and reason"' ( Quran 7:33).
- "Women impure are for men impure, and men impure are for women impure and women of purity are for men of purity, and men of purity are for women of purity." (Quran 24:26)

What is the punishment for adultery in Islam:

In the very beginning of Surat An-Nur, it is stated that: (The woman and the man guilty of adultery or fornication,- flog each of them with a hundred stripes: Let not compassion move you in their case, in a matter prescribed by Allah, if ye believe in Allah and the Last Day: and let a party of the Believers witness their punishment) (An-Nur 24: 2).

But what do we mean by adultery - it's anything and everything that's not within marriage - even more worrying for those in a relationship. And how does Dubai deal with adultery - its imprisonment and deportation, either or both - and who knows what friends you may make in Al Wathba.

So where does that leave us in this new case - well, Sally Antia allegedly had an affair - and for that she could face the sentence above, but worst of all she could lose custody of her kids.

Dubai is a pretty liberal place if you consider the lifestyle that you can lead, but it has rules - if you cant live by those rules then you shouldnt really move to live there. That said, each to their own. If you want to risk it, you tread a fine line whether you live in Dubai, the East or the West. Losing custody of ones children is sentence enough.
