Sex and the City of Abu Dhabi

Sex and the City 2 debuts soon, and despite all the furore, Abu Dhabi makes its name - and gets more international brand presence, as Carrie and girls spend half the film glamming it in the UAE. Remember though that Dubai rejected the film supposedly because sex was in the name of the film. So it was amusing that it eventually made itself to Abu Dhabi, which is perceived as more conservative. Well, perhaps it was a little too sexy for Abu Dhabi - as some of the scenes were set in Morocco - as you can see from the trailer.

"One week in Abu Dhabi - all expenses paid for all four of us" is what Samantha says - "I can hear the decadence calling!"

Whatever you think of it, millions will go see the film around the world and this will start to cement Abu Dhabi as a luxurious tourist destination (even if it was Morocco). Export many more single (ish) rich females, gracing the shores of the Emirate some time this Xmas

Volcano Wedding via skype in Dubai

While a now infamous Icelandic volcano called Eyjafjallajoekull reeks havoc upon much of Northern Europe, one couple have said the show must go on and have continued with their wedding ceremony in Dubai that was supposed to be held in the UK. Held in the Millenium Airport Hotel, the couple tied the know in the hotel lobby surrounded by strangers who hummed the wedding march for them. Their family watched by skype!

Interesting for a number of reasons, most of which since skype is banned in Dubai. And don't worry, for those of you who thought that "you may now kiss the bride" would seal their fate in Al Slammer Prison, this was a copycat ceremony of one held already in Brisbane.

    Icarus Tower Dubai

Just when you thought that Burj Khalifa couldn't be beaten, up comes the Icarus Tower Dubai. Designed and built with the energy in mind, this will utilise new technology based upon the movement of individuals, essentially creating a building that is powered by its inhabitants.

Although final designs have not yet been established, they are thought to not conform with the the traditional bravado of Dubai's skyline, and while the height of the "Icarus Dubai" is thought to be pitched as higher than the Burj, "it will look unlike anything in Dubai. Please bear in mind that it is the first day of the fourth month of the year .
