When I checked Johann's profile on Wikipedia, it struck me that he was like the character in "The Fast Show" standing in the bar with his pals, who would agree with all arguments, as they were presented.

Rather than harp on the credentials of the author, Dubai ought to acknowledge the existence of such problems (in whatever magnitude they may be) and start serious efforts (not just PR spin) in addressing them. This is all the more important given Dubai's dependence on international tourism and investment.

I don't think Dubai needs to make amends at all with the Haris of the world - plus the Elizabeth Farrellys, Simon Jenkins etc - what Dubai needs to do is deal with the issues that some of these journalists have highlighted (the plight of the workers, prison conditions, the situation of the jobless who can't repay debts etc) and get better at marketing itself as a travel destination.
